Ten Tors Challenge
Wyvern The Ten Tors Community welcomes its new Director Colonel Andrew Dawes Commander South West

Thu 20 Apr 2017: TEN TORS TRAINING 22 – 23 APRIL 2017

What is effectively the last Ten Tors training weekend sees many teams training on the North Moor. Ideally you will have spread your training both by locations and time but the position of Easter will have encouraged you to stretch legs one final time before the Challenge. We feel sure you will have remembered that you are only allowed 4 days training on the North Moor from 1 Feb 17. Checks are being made.

The pressure on North Dartmoor requires that walking groups care for Dartmoor and are considerate of other users. Please make sure your Establishment Codes are visible, you know your escape routes, you avoid the RBNAs and sheep/cattle/ponies as they are heavily pregnant or have just given birth, and you are polite and chatty with other users you meet.

Team staff must also be considerate particularly with their driving and parking. In the north, please park on Okehampton Camp’s square and not spoiling the views on the open moor. On the West side, use Willsworthy carpark rather than blocking the narrow road to Lane Head. Bagga Tor should also be avoided as the road is similarly narrow and there is only parking for 5 vehicles. On the east side, don’t go to Kes by vehicle unless it is essential. And in the south, remember that we can only use 50% of the car parking spaces. In short, stand-off in the big carparks and only drive on the narrow roads if you have to collect a casualty.

The Website’s Home page has many reminders about training, please look at it one final time for TT 17. The Compliance Monitors will be out in force both to check on you and to give assistance if needed. You have all been particularly good this year, please make this weekend’s training equally good.
